Holiday in Oberhof
Pleasure. Nature. Sport.
Oberhof is not only about watching winter sports, but also about actively participating in them. The town offers not only competitive but also ambitious recreational athletes and tourists excellent conditions for competition, training and recreation.
Under the guidance of experienced coaches and trainers, those interested in Oberhof can take part in biathlon shooting for guests, experience a bobsleigh ride on the racing sledge and bobsleigh track, and cross-country skiers have access to a well-developed network of groomed trails in winter and the LOTTO Thüringen Skisport-HALLE for summer.
Friends of alpine winter sports will get their money's worth on the Fallbach slope. This slope is suitable for beginners and advanced skiers, for families with children and, of course, for snowboarders, who will also find ideal beginner-conditions in the new fun park.
The area around Oberhof is ideal for hiking, as Germany's most famous hiking trail, the Rennsteig, passes directly by the town.
Hiking tours can be undertaken in the direction to the Großer Beerberg, Thuringia's highest mountain at 983 m, to the Schneekopf (978 m) and the Schmücke (East), and the direction to the sports facilities in the Kanzlersgrund and at the Grenzadler, the Ruppberg, the Gebrannten Stein and the Großer Hermannsberg (West). To the north and north-west, the Lütsche Dam, the Ohratal Dam and the Schmalwasser Dam are worthwhile excursion destinations.
The Rennsteig Garden, a botanical garden for mountain fauna with almost 4,000 different plant species from all parts of the world, is another attraction for hiking tours in Oberhof.
The high moors on the ridge of the Thuringian Forest, such as the Schützenberghochmoor, are also worth a visit. Those looking for relaxation and recreation are also in good hands in the state-recognised resort of Oberhof. It has 3,500 guest beds in several hotels, guesthouses and holiday flats.
The Exotarium Oberhof, the largest aqua-terra zoo in central Germany, offers a completely different kind of attraction. Here you can observe numerous reptiles, amphibians, insects and fish on an area of around 1,200 m².
Horse carriage rides and sleigh rides around Oberhof are also one of the big must-do recommendations when visiting.
