What was your athletic career like?
with 6 years athleticswith 11 years cross-country skiingwith 12 years biathlon
One of the most significant achievements was to have found a sport that suited me. I was able to try my hand at biathlon for 25 years, although I only became aware of my talent after 10 years of hard biathlon training.
My greatest successes were at the Olympic Games, World Championships and in the overall World Cup from 1992 to 2007.
Who are your idols?
There have always been role models close to me who were and are better in various areas. I have had over a hundred role models so far. They are still important to me today.
What was the most emotional moment of your sports career?
The birth of my daughter, during the 2004 Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof.
What was the biggest sporting disappointment for you?
Missing the Junior World Championships in 1991 already hit me, but the personal disappointment of my knee problems in 1989 were much higher.
What are your goals for the future?
When I've made the half-century, I'd like to write a book.
... because only here athletes of numerous sports, in a very special way, can train up to world class and compete at the top level.
