Alpine fun at its best

All alpine fans are also offered good reasons for a holiday in Thuringia. The low mountain ranges of the Free State have numerous alpine downhill slopes. You will find two of them in the holiday resort of Oberhof. The Fallbachhang, Oberhof's longest downhill slope, leads you down into the valley over a length of 800 metres. It is partly covered with artificial snow and is equally suitable for beginners, advanced skiers and families with children. Evening skiing under floodlights is also possible here. Of course, the Fallbach slope also has a lot to offer snowboarders. This winter season, the snowboard park located directly on the slope is once again a special highlight. At the valley or mountain station of the Fallbach lift, umbrella bars provide a lively après-ski atmosphere.

Cross-country skiing in the Nordic Active Centre

Cross-country skiing has been a permanent feature of winter holidays in the Thuringian Forest since 1904. Once brought over from Scandinavia by the Oberhof spa doctor Dr. Curt Weidhaas, this extremely healthy active sport quickly found a large following. Since then, cross-country skiing has become the most popular sport in the winters in Thuringia. In Oberhof alone, lovers of Nordic sports can expect over 100 kilometres of groomed cross-country trails and prepared winter hiking paths. More than 20 different routes, including Nordic Active trails certified by the German Ski Association, are available to holidaymakers and residents of the Thuringian Forest. In Oberhof, you can hire cross-country skiing equipment directly on site, take cross-country skiing courses and enjoy the wonderful winter days.

Unique in Germany is the indoor cross-country skiing hall. In the LOTTO-Thüringen-Skisport-HALLE you have a winter holiday 365 days a year. At -4°C, there is a 1.2-kilometre cross-country skiing track with uphill and downhill runs, cross-country tracks and skating tracks. Top athletes from all over the world train here, and guests can watch them at any time from the visitor's balcony. During the times for recreational athletes, everyone can take advantage of the perfect cross-country skiing conditions and follow in the footsteps of the Langlaus stars. Ski clothing and equipment can also be rented in the ski hall all year round, even in summer when it's 30°C in the shade.
