Technical Museum Gesenkschmiede
On the basis of existing material witnesses, visitors can learn about the development of drop forged parts, including the production of tools.
Beschreibung
Originally built as a sawmill between 1830-40 and equipped with two water wheels, the building was taken over by a blacksmith's company (Wahl) that had been in town since 1842 and converted into a drop forge in 1918. The company was listed as a historical monument in 1988. Today, the former drop forge is a technical monument and museum. We will show you the oldest board drop hammers in Germany with a dead weight of over 16 t and a height of over 4 m. You can follow the history of drop forging, including tool making, and view numerous historic machines and hand tools.
